I notice from your guest list you have a lady whose Mum and Dad owned The Wee Shoppe at Carbeth. My name was Joan McPhail and I used to play with Aileen Ingles. I presume that was her sister.

We lived in the Gorbals until leaving for Canada in 1957. The single fondest memories I have from back then were the several years we had the hut in Carbeth. My sister thinks it was number 86 although I can't remember. Even after all these years, I can still remember the smells, the sounds, and the hills.

Carbeth holds many fond memories for me and our family. We spent all our school holiday at the hut and many weekends as well. The people were great, the swimming gala's where competition was fierce between wee Chris and Barns Graham, the Cuilt road and the caravans behind Jimmys petrol station. A place where kids could roam free with no worries. The families from Glasgow and Clydebank made it great as well.

It was a pleasure to visit Carbeth with Tom McKendrick, and see the nice area and different styles of buildings, reminded me of when I built my first "Retreat" 53 years ago in Canada. A place such as these serves well to enhance the flavour of life.
